Blog Feature- Single Crochet Stitch Tutorial

Leona Sutton (found on instagram)  has been wonderfully kind and
offered to show me how to crochet with this easy to follow tutorial
with step-by-step picture. Thank you so much Leona!
Crochet is dead simple to pick up and a lot easier than knitting as you can easily correct your mistakes.  One of the most important things to remember when starting out is to keep tension on the wool - not too tight or too loose!

Stage One:

Make a loop knot with the wool, making sure you have a tail.  Pull the loop through the hook and wrap the wool around the hook.

Stage Two:

Feature- Hold Your Horses

I’m sure every girl can agree that seeing someone else wearing the same outfit as you is a worst nightmare come true and with mass produced products and brands being sold in popular stores, it isn’t an uncommon situation to be stuck in. We all know that the awkward “Hey, nice dress…” comment is really just a cover up for the underlying feeling of frustration and the secret promise you make to yourself that you will never wear that dress again.
This is what sparked a small fire within 18 year old Australian student, Lima Rose, who felt that she and every other woman should be able to wear quality clothing that no one else in the world owned. With her newfound feeling that she had to make a difference, backed by years of knowledge about the clothing industry, came the arrival of her own fashion label Hold Your Horses.  Together with her mother, they share over 40 years’ experience designing, pattern-making and sewing exclusive garments for high end designers, manufacturers and private clientele. Their aim is simple: to create top quality, one-off or limited edition garments at affordable prices.
Founded in mid-April 2012 as a Facebook store, their fan base has rapidly grown to around 1,200 likers from all around the world – and it is still growing. HYH then opened their online Storenvy store in June, creating a market largely in the U.S.A. and Europe. In the future, they hope to stock garments in local stores or in a small store of their own.

Their amazing creations range from dresses, to vintage recreated shorts, to onesies, with prices for their products being anywhere between $4AUD and

5 Winter Essentials!

My name is Talia Kaur and I am a fashion columnist at a local newspaper. I am also studying a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (Journalism) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (France) at the University of Technology, Sydney. I am passionate about the fashion industry and am working towards becoming a fashion journalist or a freelance fashion writer in the magazine industry.

Fashion column:

5 winter essentials!

1. Knitted jumpers
Meet winter’s most popular fashion piece. There’s nothing more comfortable than a cozy knitted jumper and it’s become an absolute must-have this cold season. The great thing about them is that they come in so many different styles and colours – from light pastel preppy ones to dark patterned drapey ones – so it’s impossible not to find a perfect option for you. A soft cotton or wool jumper will look great with almost everything so don’t be afraid to let your imagination run wild this season and team them up with different textures, fabrics and patters. You could pair a pastel blue knitted jumper with some floral trousers for a feminine look. If you feel like going for something with a bit more edge, team a leather skirt with a bright knit and add a thin belt at the waist – it’s right on trend yet so comfortable.

2. Faux-fur coats

Maive

AN INTRODUCTION TO MAIVE
The founder, four Prasetiya Mulya Business School students whose passion in business and fashion, hit upon the Maive’s name in 2011 when it was established. They took the name of Maive from an Irish word meaning “captivating woman”- quite unaware that the means of captivating is also taken into a book stated that women should embrace her glory, rather than fear her femininity.
The founder stated in this emansipation era, women should embrace her equality and professionalism at work at the same time groom her appearance. But, difficulties in finding suitable office wear for young professional women was a problem.

“It is our philosophy that women should look attractive not only in casual occasion but also in daily office routine.”

Maive’s vision is to provide the greatest one stop online solution dedicated to

Blog Feature: Galaxy Print DIY

Thuy Duyen from http://imrely.blogspot.com.au, has provided us with this wonderful and exciting tutorial on how to bring the galaxy out within your clothes  :) Enjoy!

Hello! It's been a while since I've done something constructive... I have been so busy (the positives of being a senior - hello mid year exams!). Anyway today while browsing online, I had a very, very strong desire to buy myself a pair of galaxy printed leggings, however, the design I wanted was out of stock. Sad times. So I laid in bed thinking about how soon I could get my hands on something galaxy printed, that I could actually pull off.. Have you noticed some galaxy prints cover the whole garment? I don't really like that look, I think it would be hard to wear with other clothes... because it would look really busy with all the colours everywhere! so.. long story short, if I could do a galaxy print on my nails, i could do it on my clothes.. and do it to my liking! Luckily, I'm a crafty girl, so I had some fabric paint stashed away... but only in black, white, blue and teal.. so I decided to use some acrylic paint! that stuff never washes out, I would know.

1. Gather your scraps and start stripping your material in different widths. If you're slightly OCD, work with just all being the same width, but I love the look when they are all different sizes and textures.

DIY Shorts In A Matter Of Hours

All thanks to Charlie from instagram for this wonderful tutorial! (To find Charlie on facebook and/or instagram keeping reading below.

The sun has finally started to make a presence in the past couple of weeks; the high street is stocking the top summer trends, so surely its time for a wardrobe spring clean? I think not! Why should you pay £10 or more of your hard earned cash on a new pair of shorts when the answer is lying right there in your old jeans that you’ve just put in a bin back. Dig them back out and see how within the hour they can be transformed into shorts that are as good a new.

Fancy Stud Shoes

Ecitah from instagram has allowed me to feature her DIY stud shoes, in this tutorial she has suggest two ways to proceed this DIY. To read both method press read more below.

First thing first, there are two ways to go about this. You can either:
A.) Get studs that you can just glue on. You can get studs at any craft/bead store. In that case, you need glue, a marker, a tweezer and studs. If you pick this way, the only thing you need to do is:
1. Mark the places you want studded. Just put dots wherever you want to place the studs.
2. Glue the dots, one at a time.
3. Use the tweezer to place the stud on the material.
